Inside the studio: how an order becomes a doll

Nothing is made in advance

There is no shelf of finished stock here. Every handmade crochet doll starts when the order does, which is the reason for the processing time on each product page and the reason cancellations have a short window.

What happens first

The order comes through with a character and a size. Yarn is pulled and checked against the others it will sit next to — colour matching happens before anything is made, because a colour changed later means a piece remade.

Then the slow part

Head, body, limbs, each worked separately in the round. Then the face, which is embroidered and redone if the expression is not right. Then hair, then clothes as their own pieces, then assembly. A full account of where the hours go is in how long a handmade crochet doll takes to make.

Checking

Before anything is packed it is checked for even stuffing, secure joins and a face that matches the reference. A doll that does not pass is remade rather than sent — which is part of why the studio does not take change-of-mind returns on made-to-order work. See the refund policy.

Packing and posting

Dolls are wrapped so the hair is not crushed in transit, then posted with tracking. Shipping to the United States is free, and both the processing and the transit windows are shown on every product page.

Why it is done this way

Made to order means no overproduction, no leftover stock in colours nobody wanted, and a doll made for one person rather than for a warehouse. It also means waiting — which is the trade, and worth saying plainly.
